MX Comments and Suggestions
Hi,
I'm a single mother and my 9-year-old son has expressed some interest in motocross. We watch it on television and think it's amazing. Is there someone around, perhaps, who offers lessons. He, nor I, have ever ridden.
Thanks for any info.
epage, I would suggest coming out to the track during our open practice. Several qualified riders and/or parents would be there that could answer your questions and help you get started in motocross. There's no cost unless you ride on the track.
Love the track for the most part. I only have 2 suggestions. 1. Obviously you guys have been told before but the lighting on the MX track at night could use a little beefing up. The combination of dark soil and poor lighting can be a little sketchy for lack of better words. 2. I've heard rumors that the track was tight and sandy to cut speeds down due to insurance needs (again rumors). The tight part is acceptable and to be honest is alot of fun but I think adding alittle more clay into the track would actually make it safer and easier to ride. I'm in no way bashing the facility because you guys do a great job however everyones going to have an opinion and I'm just offering up mine. See you guys at the next SMX event!
Hi Jamey,
Thanks for the comments.
1) As for the lighting, we already have new lighting that is ready to erect. This will almost TRIPLE the amount of lighting that is currently there! We are awaiting power to be installed by the electric company (since the new lighting cannot be supplied as currently configured). We were not able to get that work done before the fair.
2) The track was designed as a Supercross-style track to be different than other "motocross" tracks in the area, simply to add some variety. We are adding some clay several times a year, but due to costs we try to get "free" clay as it becomes available. As for track design and insurance, those must be rumors. We simply wanted a great track using the amount of space available AND different, so the Supercross style was chosen. We understand some people don't like it, but many consider it their favorite track. At least it's something different!
We do meet and discuss ways to improve the track. The track's dirt is always a topic of discussion, mainly how to better handle water, or the lack of it. Rest assured, we are continually thinking of ways to improve the track and appreciate your insight!
